Trying to figure out what you want to do after your GCSE's can be difficult, but there are plenty of options that you can choose if you're looking for a change from the classroom enviornment!

A fantastic option is an Apprenticeship. You can earn while you learn and gain an accredited qualification to go with it! Employer's are keen to find individuals who already have experience within an indsustry, and so, an Apprenticeship is the perfect first step on the career ladder.

We are launching our Apprenticeship Academy for the fifth time! We are recruiting apprentices to join the team at our modern head office in Spennymoor, County Durham.

The Purple People Apprenticeship Academy is open to anybody, whether it be young people who have left school, individuals looking to take a first step into employment, or people who are looking for a career change.

We are recruiting for apprentices to enrol onto our award-winning training programmes in Business Administration and Customer Service which will help fill essential skills gaps in the region.

We have successfully trained four cohorts of apprentices through our Apprenticeship Academy, 90% of whom have progressed to secure permanent positions with us! One of these apprentices is Abbie Peters. Read what Abbie had to say about her time in our Apprenticeship Academy:

Tell us a bit about your journey at LCG?

I started LCG when I completed my GCSEs in 2019 as a Client Engagement Advisor Apprentice, where I completed my Level 2 Customer Service Apprenticeship. After my first year, I went into a new role within the business in the Apprenticeship Services team as an Engagement, Progression and Destinations Administrator, where I looked after feedback and destinations of our apprentices who were currently completing and completed an apprenticeship through LCG. I then undertook my Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship qualification and picked up some more responsibilities in the team, such as booking inductions in for apprentices being inducted onto our programmes. In 2022, once I had completed my business admin qualification, I decided I wanted a new challenge and took an interest the Apprenticeship Recruitment side of the team, in which I was successful in getting the role. My duties would include, winning new business from employers looking to upskill and recruiting apprentices for different companies. In 2023, a team leader role became available, and despite being worried because of my age, I applied and was successful within the position in which I became Apprenticeship Sales Team Leader, where me and my team, work with SME employers to sell our apprenticeship programmes.

Why did you want to go down the apprenticeship route?

I went down the apprenticeship route because I hated the school environment and didn’t want to go to college or sixth form to have another 2 years of it. I wanted to get out and earn my own money. I have always been ambitious and knew an apprenticeship would give me the career I wanted.

What did you enjoy about being part of the Purple People Academy?

I loved joining the Purple People Academy as there was quite a few of us who started at once so there were others in the same position as me. I loved that my tutor treats me as an adult and completing my apprenticeship wasn’t like school at all and we were given our own independence.

What do you enjoy about working at LCG?

THE PEOPLE! I have made friends for life at LCG, some I now call best friends! I also love the opportunities they give; I would never be where I am in my career without LCG.

Why should others apply for PPA?

It is an amazing experience! There is so many opportunities within the company and so much to learn. There is progression and so much support here too, even if you don’t know what you want to do right now, which I didn’t when I started, they will support you to find the perfect career.

The apprentices will work across a range of departments including Customer Care, Recruitment, Finance and Bids and Contracts.

Applications are open for the Purple People Academy, if you are looking to begin your career this summer, please contact apprenticeshiprecruitment@learningcurvegroup.co.uk or visit LCG Apprenticeship Programme 2023 in Spennymoor.
