After leaving Whitworth Park School in 2018 I decided to spend a year at New College Durham doing Business and Retail (60 credits) Level 3. Halfway through this course, I realised that college was not for me. I felt as though I was still in school and didn’t have the chance to use other things, I had learnt which pushed me to try and execute these skills inside a workplace. I decided to apply for an apprenticeship as I felt it would open more doors and give me more experience.

I then applied to Learning Curve Group to join their Purple People Academy. I was offered a role in the Client Services department. My duties include calling businesses to give them more information on training courses that they could undertake - by doing this it helps me with relationship building with customers. As part of my role I make sure that there is a clear communication to the customer, ensuring they are aware of the eligibility criteria and the steps that will be taken before and after the induction to their courses. This ensures we give them the highest quality service.

WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR APPRENTICESHIP?

The best thing about my apprenticeship is being able to work in a supporting environment - if I ever have any queries or need help doing my work there is always somebody available to support me. Another thing that is great about my apprenticeship is being given time to be able to take in all the information given then being able to put that into practice in the department.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE THINKING ABOUT AN APPRENTICESHIP?

I would advise them to do some research on the company and the role they would be completing before applying. It is all a process and you are there to learn the role you are completing so go for it - it gives you the grounding for any future skills.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS UPON COMPLETING THE APPRENTICESHIP?

I see myself working in an office environment using all my skills and abilities I have learnt throughout my apprenticeship and to be able to become a better businessperson over time and help advise others.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?

In 5 years’, time I see myself as a successful person, with a job that I love doing and with a good family supporting me.
