Course overview

This qualification aims to develop understanding of autism and the principles of supporting autistic individuals - covering the person-centred approach and influence of positive communication methods, how to support positive behaviour, and how autistic individuals can be supported to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

What will I learn?

Our Understanding Autism course covers the following units: 

  • How autistic people process sensory information
  • The characteristics that may be present in autistic individuals
  • The conditions that commonly occur with autism
  • Common misconceptions surrounding autism
  • How speech, language and communication may differ in autistic people
  • How legislation and guidance underpins support

Eligibility

This course is government-funded, you must meet the following criteria to be able to study for free: 

  • You must currently live in England
  • You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years for purposes other than study 
  • You must be over the age of 19

How will I study?

Classes will be held in a classroom setting. Online delivery is offered for selected courses and dates. You will need access to an internet connection to a PC or laptop for an online delivery option.
