Course Overview

With only 10% of children with special educational needs (SEN) attending mainstream schools, it is vital that they are given as much support as possible. This level 3 course gives an insight into the various factors that impact the development of children and young people from birth.

You will learn about current legislation that informs working practices, and examine how to incorporate the perspectives of children, young people, and caregivers into learning development services through reflective practice. Understand strategies on how to guide children and young people towards positive outcomes while addressing any attitudes or behaviours that may hinder their learning opportunities.

What will I learn?

This course is made up of five units:

  • Development of children and young people
  • Professional practice in special educational needs service
  • How to support children and young people to achieve learning potential
  • How to support children and young people with speech, language and communication needs
  • How to support disabled children and young people and those with specific requirements

This course is ideally suited for learning mentorship and family support work. It can also assist with further study towards a career in teaching or early years tutorship.
