If you'd love to start a career as a social worker, the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Social Work) is a level 3 qualification designed to prepare you to study for a Social Work degree. If you don’t have the grades you need to apply for university, an Access to HE Diploma will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need.
This course is specifically designed to put you on the pathway to study a degree in Social Work. You'll learn core knowledge that will prepare you for your degree including safeguarding, mental health, and the effects of poverty on health.
An Access to HE Diploma is made up of units that offer 45 graded credits and 15 ungraded credits. You will complete a number of assignments as part of your modules that will form your electronic portfolio. You will be assessed via formal written assignments, that will create a portfolio of work.
Throughout your course, you'll be expected to join live online classes, as well as study independently. You'll have the support of one of our specialist tutors throughout your programme.
Access courses are designed for people who have been out of education for some time - so they're the perfect option if you left school without the qualifications you'd need to go straight to university. They provide you with a good level of knowledge and skills so that you feel prepared to start a degree. Whether you're a career changer, have been out of employment and education for some time, or you're looking to pursue a subject you're passionate about - an Access to HE course could be the right option for you.
Our Access to HE Diplomas are delivered online - making learning accessible, so you can study anywhere. You’ll have access to our online platform, where you can learn independently, build knowledge, and complete interactive sessions which embed your learning.
This course is eligible for funding via an Advanced Learner Loan. The Government introduced 19+ Advanced Learner Loans to help adults with the costs of further education courses.
Getting a loan doesn’t depend on your income and there are no credit checks. Advanced Learner Loans don’t get repaid until you earn over £25,000 per year.
If you progress onto a higher education course, Student Finance England will write off any outstanding balances for your Access to HE upon completion of your degree.

There's some paperwork you'll need to fill out for us to process your enrolment. If you're funding the course through an Advanced Learner Loan, we'll also support you with your Student Finance England application.
It's really important you get the paperwork back to us as soon as possible so your start date isn't delayed.
You'll attend an initial induction webinar, get access to your online platform where you will work through assignments, and begin sessions with your tutor.
